Formula & assumptions
Suggested net price = plate cost ÷ target food cost %. If your menu prices include tax (for example GST-inclusive pricing in Australia), the suggested menu price = net price × (1 + tax %). For US tax-exclusive menus leave tax at 0.
Check an existing price: net price = menu price ÷ (1 + tax %); food cost % = plate cost ÷ (net price × (1 − card/commission fee %)). Markup % = (net price − cost) ÷ cost. Markup and food cost % are different numbers: a 28% food cost is a 257% markup.
Enter the tax rate and fee rate that apply to you. We do not assume one.

Methodology
- Suggested net price = plate cost ÷ target food cost %. For tax-inclusive menus (such as GST-inclusive pricing in Australia), menu price = net price × (1 + tax %).
- Existing price check: net price = menu price ÷ (1 + tax %); food cost % = plate cost ÷ (net price × (1 − fee %)).
- Markup % = (net price − plate cost) ÷ plate cost. A 28% food cost equals about a 257% markup.
- Enter the tax and fee rates that apply to you; the tool does not assume any.

Should I include delivery-app commission?+
For delivery menus, yes. Enter the commission % in the fee field to see the food cost on what you actually keep.
Does this handle Australian GST?+
Enter 10% in the tax field if your menu prices include GST. Check your own GST obligations with the ATO or your accountant.
